I think he lacks height. He has the speed. He has the strength. But he doesn't have the length. So, when he has to defend a guard who actually had the ability to play in the post, he gets hurt. Or, if he has to defend someone much taller, who can just rise up and shoot over him, he struggles.

My hope this coming season is that Stan will actually utilize Jameer in a way he can take advantage of who is defending him by using his speed, in turn wearing out the opposing teams PG out, and leaving them less energy for offense. We saw this version of Jameer 2 seasons ago after we traded Steve Francis. But B Hill was letting him play loose then, because we were 20 games under .500. Once last season started, Hill put the clamps on Jameer, and he struggled the entire season, like many of our players.

Anyway, that was an awesome column; so awesome it shook my brain and left me confused and thinking. Anyway, I'll come back and read it again, but I wanted to leave my all-defensive lineup. In no way do I think this lineup is our best, but I do think it's our best on one side of the floor.

Dooling
Bogans
Ariza
Battie
HowardOVERWADEDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05622480986286528477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326369852741451028.post-76945862565020821582007-09-12T17:39:00.000-04:002007-09-12T17:39:00.000-04:00It's probably related to that, yeah. I mean, Jamee...It's probably related to that, yeah. I mean, Jameer Nelson has to guard the likes of Chauncey Billups and Jason Kidd four times a year each; Arroyo, assuming he's the top backup, would then have to guard Flip Murray and Marcus Williams. I think you see where I'm headed with this.

However, that still doesn't explain how the Magic are better off with Jameer Nelson on D than they are with Keyon Dooling. One point per 100 possessions doesn't seem like much, but it still doesn't make sense, given Jameer's lack of defensive skill and Keyon's abundance of it.Ben Q. What led me there was that Howard has a positive differential, which has to be a result of playing more minutes than anyone else.Ty Keenanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17017621898637884658noreply@blogger.com
